Local: the most used. Applied directly in the area that will be operated. Usually associated to the sedation, so that the patient sleeps and does not see the application of the anesthesia.
We use it in the following surgeries: breast implant, mammoplasty reduction, otoplasty (bat ear), blepharoplasty (eyelids), rhinoplasty (nose), facelift or rhytidoplasty, scar corrections, liposuctions of small volumes.
Epidural or Rachis: applied on the back. The whole area of the abdomen, back and legs of the patient is dormant. It is also associated to the sedation so that the patient sleeps before the application. It is used in: Liposuction, abdominoplasty, mini-abdomen, mammoplasty and gluteus implant.
General: rarely used in our service. The medicines are applied in the vein and the patient sleeps, however it is necessary that he/she uses a respirator.
Used in: rhinoplasties with deviation of septum correction, associated surgeries or very long procedures.
It is important to remember that the anesthetist always talks to the patient before the surgery, checks the preoperative tests and explains on the anesthesia that will be applied, besides monitoring and accompanying the patient during all the time of the surgery.
